Happy Times! :)

Mon Sep 28, 2009, 10:05 AM
Well it looks like pimping ourselves out at NYAF was a success!!! :boogie:

We only had 6 copies to sell but we sold out! At $6 a piece too!! It was probably one of the most expensive items at the SVA table too :XD: We also were able to hand out tons of flyers. Some press people seemed pretty interested too!

Promoting ourselves was actually really fun! XD I can't wait to do it again! We will hopefully be able to sell more again for MOCCA and Otakon *_* We may even have 2 or 3 issues out by then!! I'm planning on publishing a 2 part story in one or 2 of the next few issues, so It will be super exciting to see one of my long stories in print!! :excited:

By Otakon we should have 2 animations out too! So we can show them on a computer screen while we sell our stuff! I'm doing the soundtrack for both of them so I'll be making CD's we can sell with the magazines. There's so much in store for the future!! It's so exciting!!

Of course this also means I have a lot on my plate... XD;; But I'm feeling motivated! To keep myself organized I think I'll write a list!

Things I have to do this semester:

Jupiter Comic- 25-30 pages, fully inked and toned on computer.

Reila soundtrack- 4-5 songs, at least 3 advanced songs

3-4 illustrations for fantasy illustration class, fully colored

22 page comic script for comic writing

Help Jen with backgrounds, and come up with song concepts for her soundtrack

Alright that pretty much sums it up :D not including small assignments... *goes insane*

All in all NYAF was awesome! I didn't spend a penny but that's ok we made money instead! XD Oh yeah! I also got to meet :iconmandichan: who was super cool and nice :D I'm looking foreward to more cons in the future!

Oh yeah, if you wanna buy our awesome magazine just click here: Story Ark and buy it through comixpress! Or you can just visit our site www.pigtailstudio.com
and read the stuff in our comic section :D

I'd like to give lots of  's and  to :iconmb-ai: for getting this magazine started!! You're the best boss/friend ever Maria!!

Check List for the Rest of the Summer

Mon Jul 6, 2009, 11:16 AM
Heyzoos Christo!! I can't believe half the summer is over O_O That went by way too fast... I hardly saw it coming T_T

When I look over the past few weeks I can see that is was filled with helping my mom, creating my first fully vocal techno/rock song, going to a music studio on more than one occasion, and spending three weeks straight with my sister and two of my best friends. We did Karaoke for 3 hours straight (twice) and recorded a CD (lol XD), stayed up all night playing horror video games and watching Japanese horror movies (and adlibbing them so they became hilarious), we tried on various ridiculous costumes at the Halloween shop, played basketball at night with my dog, went to the Renaissance festival (bought a bamboo flute), caused chaos at the grocery store (getting ready for the zombie Apocalypse), played video games including Left 4 Dead and Soul Calibur, beat Psychonauts (one of the best games EVER), and on the last day stayed up all night creating characters on Soul Calibur 4 till we had to drop Mantha off at the airport at 4 in the morning.

Well so far, it's been an AWESOME summer :w00t: I'm so glad I was able to spend time with you guys! ~The-Unclairvoyant ~ecstatic-muffin ~THEredheadasaurus

Now that I got a decent amount of party time/relaxation out of my summer. It's time to start thinking about what I need to do before I go back to NYC in August. So I decided to create a CHECKLIST OF ULTIMATE PRODUCTIVITY!!!

-Go to the music studio one more time and finish up the Edepth Angel theme song -should be going this Tuesday or Wednesday

-Work on Maria's soundtrack for Reila. 5 songs 1-3 min each
songs will be a combination of bouncy, melancholy, crazy and Energetic.

-Work on 30 to 40 page comic
-thumbnail
-Pencil
-ink
-tone

-Work on soundtrack for Jen
-come up with concepts for each scene (need to talk to Jen before I start)
-possibly come up with a song for the
ending credits

-Work on personal projects in-between the above projects
-inking with brush and nib
-work on a song for one of my projects
-come up with story concepts for this years comic projects, possibly thumbnail some

Well that pretty much sums it up. The first three projects MUST be done before I go back to school, while the others I just need to come up with a decent amount of concepts.

The song for Yen is pretty much done, it's just a matter of going into the studio one more time, but with my other projects I really need to plan out times to work on them.

Right now I'm in an art mood so I think I will practice my drawing and inking and get started working on that comic. Maybe I'll kick it off with a 16 hour comic or a 24 hour comic to get my hands used to drawing again :3 By the end of the month I'll probably be working on Reila and this comic simultaneously XD; Here's hoping 6 weeks is enough time!

Wish me luck :faint:

(sorry for the long boring journal... this is mostly to keep myself organized XD; )

  • Listening to: E-depth Vocal version
  • Playing: Was playing Psychonauts 8D
  • Eating: Oh right... I should probably do that...

2+2= OLD (+ mastering music programs)

Thu Jun 11, 2009, 5:56 PM
Well I turned 22 today XD that's a multiple of eleven... I never actually imagined myself being this old LOL

Despite it being summer I've actually been pretty dang busy... Besides helping my mom with her broken foot, going to my sis's graduation, getting sick and doing house work, I've also been working on music projects. The past few weeks I've been working on =mayshing 's song for her opening. I have grown A LOT from this song, I learned a lot about plug-ins, recording vocals and guitar and about making things flow in general. So far it's been a very good experience.

But now that I've finished with all the recording I realize that there is still much I don't understand about mastering a song for distribution. (warning: musical rant ahead XD )

I would say this song is complete but there are many things I have to consider before sending it off to be used for animation. The first, is how it sounds on other speakers. On my studio speakers everything sounds perfect but when I play it on computer speakers it is way too quiet and the bass is almost non-existent, when I play it on a stereo the bass drowns out the vocals. There are various plug-ins I can use in my editing program specifically for this kind of thing but more often than not they make it sound worse. I tried looking it up online but everyone who has experience with it says you should pay someone else to do the mastering. Does that mean if I want my song to sound good on other speakers I have to pay someone else to do it everytime? I want to be more independent! very frustrating... especially when it sounds sooo good on my studio speakers... hearing it through my computer makes me wanna cry T_T

I found that with more involved songs that have a lot of instruments and effects like rock songs, mastering is really necessary and all the more complicated. The song I did for Jen's Last War trailer was probably about 20 layers. This song is 100 layers and it's the same length. That means I have to keep track of 100 layers of different volumes. Believe me when I say it will drive you insane!!! I guess I can understand why those musicians said not to do it yourself... at risk of insanity...

To artists out there it's kinda like finishing a piece in photoshop with 100 layers and having to go back and tweak all those layers so the piece looks ok on the internet...

For now I will keep experimenting with the mastering plug-ins on Logic Pro, I did find a few that made it sound a bit better. I don't think I have the money to take it to a studio and pay a professional to do it. Plus I really need to learn how to do it myself considering how many projects I'm doing and plan to do in the future... wish they had classes on this sort of thing :P

I'm sorry =mayshing for making you wait so long T_T I swear I will make it sound good on computer speakers. And I'm sorry ~mb-ai for not getting you the rough for Reila yet. I'm still learning and things take more time than they should X,D

ANYWAY IT'S MY BIRTHDAY AND I'M GONNNA GO PLAY VIDEO GAMES G**D***IT

:faint:

Looking forward to seeing :iconthe-unclairvoyant: this weekend! It's been soo long Mantha!! I hope we have oodles of fun this summer!! :excited:

Thank you guys in NYC for the birthday message! you made me happy

Edit: I just got an email back from the guy at the studio in colorado, he said they could master the track for $25 and that they would let me sit in on the process! I think I will try that and see if I can learn anything
